The '''Ghosthunter Research Program''' was an initiative established after [[Ghosthunter:Professor Peter Richmond|Professor Peter Richmond]] discovered empirical proof of the existence of ghosts.{{Bookref|GhosthunterGuide}} As head of the program, the professor made machinery and created Ghosthunter soldiers who went out into the haunted world to find specimens for study.{{Bookref|GhosthunterGuide}} 

The program came to an abrupt end after [[Ghosthunter:Sir William Hawksmoor|Sir William Hawksmoor]] made contact with the Ghosthunters. Hawksmoor went behind the professor's back to strike up a deal with his superiors, promising them an army of Ghost spies if he gets the spirit of [[Ghosthunter:Kate Heller|Kate Heller]] inside the professor. The professor caught on to this and fled the base, which enraged Hawksmoor, ultimately killing everyone.{{Bookref|GhosthunterGuide}}
