Template:Infobox 'Jennifer Tate – or Jen, as she likes to be known – is the main character of in the video game Primal developed by SCEE Cambridge. At the beginning of the game, she and boyfriend Lewis are attacked by a minion of Abaddon, known as Belahzur. When Jennifer was a baby, her powers were sealed within her soul. But when Lord Herne had emitted the Solum Energy from his pendant, it came straight into Jen, awakening and unlocking her magical talents, as Jen took the form of Ferai. Jen was born in the nexus and brought back to Mortalis with Lewis by Scree. Jennifer Tate’s tattoo on her back by her boyfriend Lewis represents the universe of Oblivion. Each sign of the four elemental realms are part of the whole sign of the tattoo on her back made by Lewis. The center gap represents the Nexus while the four symbols of the four elemental realms are part of the whole outer rim. Jennifer "Jen" Tate

"Mister, are you one of them bad a** rock stars?" - Jen's first line in the game.

Primal is a single player, two character action/adventure game focusing on Jen Tate, a mortal girl attacked when leaving a nightclub with her boyfriend Lewis, singer in the club's industrial music band.

  • Snarky Goth scene girl, one of the two protagonists in Primal.
    • Well-voiced by Hudson Leick, who played Callisto as a recurring role in Xena Warrior Princess and Hercules The Legendary Journeys.
    • Alignment is Chaotic Good. Laws matter less to her than doing the right thing.
    • The name Jennifer is derived from Guinevere
    • Jen is quite witty.
      • Have her chat repeatedly with Scree after returning from a Realm to the Nexus.
      • Turn on subtitles to catch all the wordplay.
  • Jen claims to be twenty-one in the opening cutscene, yet she's a waitress who's also a Goth scenegirl, albeit talking of going to college. Multiple walking contradictions, our girl Jen.
    • Perfectly appropriate then that in the Tarot card extras to be found in the game, Jen is TheFool. In constant danger, seemingly protected only by ignorance and enthusiasm, TheFool represents Jen well. (The Fool also stands in for the human race.)

Meaning of Name

  • "Jennifer" is a modern derivative of "Guinevere", wife of King Arthur.
    • The name itself is Welsh and means "Fair One."
  • "Tate", of Middle English origin, means "cheerful."
    • Goes well with Jen's PerkyGoth nature.

Jennifer Tate's Tattoo

Jen's tattoo on her back by her boyfriend Lewis represents the universe of Oblivion. Each sign of the four elemental realms are part of the whole sign of the tattoo on her back made by Lewis. The center gap represents the Nexus while the four symbols of the four elemental realms are part of the whole outer rim.[1]

Hairstyle

  • Jen has twin pigtails in her hair. They mostly carry over to her elemental forms, as well. Quotes on that hairstyle from TVTropes.org.
    • "Used as a visual clue that the character is young or immature."
    • "If an older woman is trying to disguise herself as a child, expect her to sport pigtails."

Jen claims to be twenty-one in the opening cutscene, yet she's a waitress who's also a Goth scenegirl, albeit talking of going to college. Multiple walking contradictions, our girl Jen.

Quotes

  • "I'm 21 now, Lewis, too old to be living like a bum. Plus, I'm gonna need study space once I start college." - Jen
  • "Just one thing, though. No matter where we are, you gotta stop calling me 'Jennifer.' You sound like my step dad. It's 'Jen'." - Jen
  • "Most parents took the trouble to take their kids swimming. Some even went horse-riding, too! Girl scouts... tap classes... with me you get none of that extra-curricular crap, okay?" - Jen
  • "I'm just a coffee shop waitress!" - Jen
  • "She is a wild creature, but I believe her heart is good." - Scree, speaking of Jen.

Jen's Alignment is Chaotic Good

  • Order vs Chaos: Primal features a balance between Order and Chaos, in which Order mostly functions as Good and Chaos functions as Evil; the game's plot involves the balance being tipped towards Chaos, requiring the protagonist to even things back out.
    • Order Versus Chaos is different from Good vs Evil.
    • Jen is Chaotic Good. Laws matter less to her than doing the right thing.
      • Scree: "You were brought into Oblivion as a baby. Your soul tainted by the touch of Chaos." also "She is a wild creature, but I believe her heart is good."
    • Scree is Lawful Neutral. If the rules say so, he's for it. This is demonstrated in their almost violent disagreement over Spoiler: [sacrificing the Undine Engineer]. For Scree the sacrifice is on the side of Order, he's neutral about about it being good or evil. For Jen, the decision is equally clear the other way. She regards it as Evil.

Spoiler Information

  • Jen is referred to as a hybrid by King Herne.
  • The Helot Watcher in Aetha calls Jen "Corruption."
  • "You were brought into Oblivion as a baby. Your soul tainted by the touch of Chaos." - Scree to Jen
  • Spoiler: ["You are a hybrid, Jennifer; half mortal, half demon. One of only two in all existence, and to me that makes you more important than an army of demons. Did you think it was just those trinkets on you arms that allowed you to change form? You have powers that even Abaddon does not fully comprehend. You can go anywhere, do things that Belahzur could not if he had a millennium. The laws of the Nexus are yours to break." - Lady Arella, representative of Order.]
  • Spoiler: [Jen causes or enables the death of the male ruler of each of the Four Realms. She only kills one female ruler. Jen "KingSlayer" Tate?]

Final Spoken Lines

"Do you think you could endeavor never to forget me only in my current form?" - Abdizur
"Not a chance, Rocky. Not a chance..." - Jen

(Jen fades away. Her vambrace clatter to the floor.)
