My darling daughter,
My first day in prison, time stretches ahead of me, an endless open road. Let the sentence be 'death' and bring this horror to an end.
My girl, I want you to know that I love you. No matter what you think of me, I love you. Please believe that much.
I cannot hope you will be able to believe these other truths - I loved your mother, I truly loved your mother, and I had no dislike for all those other people whose lives I cruelly stole away.
My darling wife, your mother, is lost forever - like a fading flower her beauty is long withered and gone. How I long to atone for my crimes or to turn back time, but that can never be.
I do not ask for your forgiveness. I do not ask for your understanding. I do not forgive or understand myself. Just remember life before that fateful night, and know that you mean everything to me.
